Is there a dedicated golf class period?
Yes! This year Bowie has added a dedicated golf class. If you make the golf team, we would like to add the golf class to your schedule. The golf class is scheduled for 8th period, B Day.

When are Bowie Golf tryouts?

Tryouts are the last week of August for the fall at Jimmy Clay. The spring season tryouts are the 2nd week of January.

Do you need to know how to play golf to be on the team?

You need to know how to play golf and have experience with tournaments to be on the team.

What does Bowie golf cost?

Playing golf at Bowie is free if you practice with the team at Jimmy Clay. That includes range balls and on course practice time. Tournament fees are also included and paid for by the school district.
 
This season we will also have practice at Grey Rock Golf Club. Each player will be responsible for joining and paying for a Junior Golf Membership at Grey Rock.

What equipment do I need?

You will need to supply your own clubs, golf shoes, and practice balls.

When and where are practices?

Practice is Monday through Thursday, depending on weather. We will practice at Grey Rock Golf Course and/or Jimmy Clay golf course as a team, but you can have individual practice at other courses if approved with the coach. No practices on Fridays or Saturdays.

What day of the week are tournaments?

Tournaments could be any day, Monday through Thursday, during the school day. We usually tee off at 8:00 am.

How do students get to tournaments and practices? 

Players will need to supply their own transportation to practice and tournaments. You will need to sign a private transportation form and have it on file with Coach Miller.

 

How many teams are there? 

There are 2 teams for Boys and Girls, a Varsity team and a Junior Varsity team. We will have up to 15 boys and 15 girls on the roster, but not all the players will play in tournaments, those are reserved for the top 10 players for each group.

Can I play golf and other sports at Bowie? How would that work? 

Playing golf in high school is a competitive sport and not a recreations sport. It is possible to play another sport at Bowie and golf at the same time. Tournaments are played during the school day so you could return to campus for your other sport, but you will be tired from walking 18 holes. If you do play another sport you will need to practice for golf on your own time if playing another sport.
