Meet Our Coaches, Instructors and Team Advisors
Get to know our dedicated team of Coaches, Instructors, and Advisors who are passionate about guiding our student athletes to success. They bring experience from all levels of competitive golf, from High School, to College, to the Professional Level.

Sam Miller - Head Coach
Sam Miller is in his 10th year as coach of the Bowie HS boys and girls golf teams. He has been a coach at Bowie since 1998, serving as a football, baseball, and soccer coach during his many years at Bowie. He also teaches Algebra 2.
Coach Miller is a graduate of the University of Texas. He is married to Janan Miller and has three children. Brody is a Bowie and is playing baseball at Tyler Junior College, Brooks is a Bowie junior and loves computers and making 3D printing objects, and Bree is in 9th grade at Bowie and loves Marvel movies and shows.

Karl Lauer - Assistant Coach
Karl Lauer is in his 18th year at Bowie HS and this will be his 6th year with the boys and girls golf teams. He has also been a softball coach at Bowie since 2012. He teaches both on-level and AP U.S. History.
Coach Lauer is a native Texan who grew up in Arlington, before moving to Collierville, Tennessee for grade school. He is a graduate of Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is married to Kim Lauer and has two daughters. Ellie is a 10th grader at Bowie who plays softball and is also a part of the dance team. Kayton is a 7th grader at Gorzycki who plays lacrosse. Coach Lauer is a collector of both baseball cards and vinyl records.

Coach Jimmy Clayton - Guest Advisor
Coach Jimmy Clayton is a lifelong teacher, mentor, and ambassador for the game of golf. A graduate of the University of North Texas, where he competed on the Mean Green golf team, Coach Clayton went on to enjoy a distinguished career as the Head Men’s Golf Coach at the University of Texas.
During his tenure, he guided and developed many of the most talented players in Longhorn golf history — athletes who would go on to compete professionally and make their mark in the sport. Known for his calm leadership, deep knowledge of the game, and unwavering dedication to his players, Coach Clayton built a legacy defined by excellence, integrity, and respect for the traditions of golf.
Now lending his time and expertise to the Bowie High School Golf program, Coach Clayton continues to impact young golfers across Austin. His mentorship provides Bowie’s student-athletes with an extraordinary opportunity to learn from one of the most respected coaches in Texas golf — a man whose influence extends far beyond the fairways and into the character and confidence of every player he helps shape.

Dana Lacy - Guest Advisor - Girls Golf Team
Originally from Perth, Australia, Dana discovered golf at a young age, inspired by her older brother. Her talent quickly shone — she became the 2000 Australian Junior Champion and earned a four-year scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport, representing Australia internationally as part of the National Team.
Turning professional in 2004, Dana competed on the Futures Tour before earning her Ladies European Tour card in 2007. After several years competing worldwide, she retired in 2010 — the same year she married her longtime partner, Gregg.
Dana then transitioned into the club professional world, teaching, running tournaments, and mentoring young golfers while raising two daughters. After moves from Delaware to South Carolina, the family settled in Austin, Texas in 2020.
Now living in Southwest Austin with Gregg and daughters Lacey and Dylan, Dana is eager to mentor student-athletes and help grow a strong, supportive Bowie Girls Golf program

Ashley Coy - Guest Advisor - Girls Golf Team
Ashley Coy works full time as an Events Coordinator at Texas Veterans Commission and volunteers as a golf mentor to share a lifelong love of the game. A lifelong golfer, she began playing in 2003 at the age of 12, competed for Bastrop High School and earned a golf scholarship to Texas A&M University - Kingsville, where she graduated in 2015. Ashley went on to complete her Masters in Sports Management at Texas A&M University in 2017. Ashley enjoys helping others build confidence and find joy on the course

Bobby O'Dell - Guest Advisor - Strength & Performance
Bobby O’Dell is a licensed physical therapist and Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Professional who brings his deep expertise in golf performance and movement training to the Bowie High School Golf program. As founder of 512 Physical Therapy & Golf Performance Center, Bobby has helped golfers of all ages improve strength, mobility, and consistency while reducing injury risk through golf-specific assessment and training.
For the Bowie High School Golf Team, he leads the Golf Strength & Performance Series, a bi-weekly program focused on developing the physical foundation for better swing mechanics, endurance, and overall athletic performance. Known for his passion, precision, and genuine investment in his athletes’ growth, Bobby provides Bowie golfers with the same professional-level resources seen in elite programs across Texas.
